Description A Royal Air Force officer who took command of No. 5 Group RAF in England at the outbreak of WW2. In Feb 1942 he was appointed Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief RAF Bomber Command and retained that position for the rest of the war. He had been in the RAF since its creation in 1918.
