Description A German U-boat commander during WW2, the seventh recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross who sank 20 Allied ships totalling about 100,000 tons. He died when U-110 was sunk in 1941. He created huge controversy when on 3 September 1939 he sunk the passenger liner Athenia.
