Description A Royal Navy officer who during WW2 commanded the destroyers HMS Grenville and Codrington, and the battleship HMS Duke of York and was Rear-Admiral (Submarines). After WW2 he was flag officer for the Far East Fleet, Fifth Sea Lord, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, commander-in-chief of Home Fleet and finally the Commander-in-Chief, Portsmouth.
