Description A Royal Navy officer who commanded during WW2 the submarine HMS Salmon which became the first boat to sink a U-boat on 4 dec 1939 when it torpedoed the German U-36 in the North Sea south-west of Kristiansand. he was killed when HMS Salmon is thought to have run into a minefield off the coast of Norway in Jul 1940.
