Name Hicks, Philip Hugh Whitby
Description A British Army officer who was commissioned in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in WW1 and awarded a Military Cross. In command of 2nd Battalion The Royal Warwickshire Regiment during the Battle for France in 1940 he managed to extricate most of the battalion back to England. He was commander of the 1st Airlanding Brigade, of the 1st Airborne Division during the invasion of Sicily as well as during the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944. After WW2, he retired and worked for the International Refugee Organization and the National Playing Fields Association before his death in 1967.
