A British Army officer who was commissioned in 1926 into the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and at the start of WW2 was with the 1st Battalion as a part of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division as Adjutant. In 1940 he served as the Brigade Major of 128th Brigade, and General Staff Officer for the 43rd Division and XII Corps. Later from November 1941 he was a General Staff Officer in the 1st Airborne Division and involved in planning the operations Biting, Husky, Neptune and Market-Garden. He was the Chief of Airborne Operations at the Headquarters of the Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia during 1944-45. |
