Description |
A British Army officer who was originally commissioned into the Suffolk Regiment and during WW2 became Commanding officer of the 12th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment. He parachuted into Normandy on D-Day as part of Operation Tonga, the operarion to capture two strategically important bridges over the Caen Canal and Orne River. He was conferring with a group of senior officers when he was killed by a stray artillery round. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his leadership while the Battalion defended the bridgehead. |
