Name Arnold, William Frank
Description A British Army officer who was commissioned into the Royal Regiment of Artillery in 1931. On November 1942 he took over command of the 1st Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, RA. and in July 1943 they were attached to 1st Parachute Brigade for the operation to take and hold the Primosole Bridge on Sicily. This was to be the first time that anti-tank guns were to be flown into action. Later the Battery joined 1st Airborne Division on Operation Market Garden, bound for Arnhem in which he was wounded and taken prisoner at the Road Bridge area and was a prisoner until Apr 1945. After the War he continued to serve in the Territorial Army until August 1966.
