Description A German U-boat ace of WW2, and the first U-boat commander to receive the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross. Under his command, the submarine U-47 sank over 31 Allied ships totalling about 192,000 tons including the British battleship HMS Royal Oak. It is assumed that U-47 was sunk with all hands on 8 March 1941
