Aeronautica Macchi An Italian aircraft manufacturer founded in 1912 by Giulio Macchi at Varese in north-western Lombardy as Nieuport-Macchi, to build Nieuport monoplanes. It manufactured a series of Nieuport designs, as well as seaplanes.1
Military - Air Force
Regia Aeronautica The air force of the Kingdom of Italy, independent of the Royal Italian Army from 1923 until 1946. In 1946, the Kingdom of Italy became the Italian Republic, whereupon its name changed to Aeronautica Militare Italiana.2

Italian Bersaglieri Core A corps of the Italian Army that have always been a high-mobility light infantry unit. Historically recognised by a distinctive wide brimmed hat decorated with black capercaillie feathers. The feathers are usually applied to their modern combat helmets.1

4th Blackshirt Division One of seven Black Shirt Divisions that were organised and fought in the Second Italo-Abyssinian War. The Blackshirts were originally the paramilitary wing of the National Fascist Party and, after 1923, an all-volunteer militia of the Kingdom of Italy.1
Italian 132nd Armoured Division Ariete An armoured division of the Italian Army during WW2. It was formed in 1939 as the second armoured division in the Italian Army and fought in the North African Campaign until being destroyed during the Second Battle of El Alamein.1
Italian 17th Infantry Division Pavia An Infantry Division of the Italian Army during WW2. It was formed in October 1939 and sent to Libya. It was never completely motorised as a formation. It was almost completely destroyed during the Second Battle of El Alamein.1
Italian 25th Infantry Division Bologna An Infantry Division of the Italian Army during WW2. It was stationed in Tripolitania and was sent to Libya for the Italian invasion of Egypt. It fought in North Africa until it was destroyed in the Second Battle of El Alamein.1
Military - Army Regiments
Maletti Group An ad hoc mechanized unit formed by the Italian Royal Army in Italian North Africa, during the initial stages of the Western Desert Campaign of World War II. It was formed in June 1940, as part of the 10th Army and contained all of the M11/39 medium tanks in Libya.1

Italian Navy The Italian navy, the Regia Marina, was the fourth biggest navy in the world at the beginning of WW2. The Sep 1943 armistice left it with many ships as its main units had remained at anchor for much of the previous year due to a shortage of fuel.3

Fascist Party The original fascist ideology, as developed in Italy. The ideology was originally associated with the National Fascist Party, which under Benito Mussolini ruled the Kingdom of Italy from 1922 until 1943. It was rooted in Italian nationalism and the desire to restore and expand Italian territories2
