Free French The French government-in-exile led by Charles de Gaulle during WW2 and its military forces that continued to fight against the Axis powers as one of the Allies after the fall of France. It was set up in London in June 1940 and provided support to the Resistance in occupied France.2
Industrial
Poissy Ford France Plant A French car plant commissioned by Ford France in 1937 and opened in 1940 a few weeks before the German invasion. Under the conditions of occupation the plant concentrated on light trucks.1
Renault Billancourt One of France's largest automobile manufacturing concerns, which built the Renault FT tank during WW1. It was seized and nationalized by the provisional government of France after WW2 after its owner 'Louis Renault was accused of collaborating with the Germans during WW2.1

Le Courrier de l'Air A French-language propaganda newspaper distributed as a leaflet during WW1 as a product of a division of the British Military Intelligence Service. A propaganda magazine of the same name was also used by the British side against Germany during WW2.1
Military - Air Force
French Air Force (Armée de l’Air) The air force of the French Armed Forces. It was formed in 1909 as the Service Aéronautique, a service arm of the French Army, then was made an independent military arm in 1933.2
No. 329 Free French Squadron 'Cigogne' A French squadron founded in July 1941 with the personnel of the French 1/2 fighter squadron (Escadron de Chasse 1/2 Cigognes). It was disbanded on 17 November 1945 and transferred to the reconstituted 2nd Fighter Wing of the French Air Force.1
No. 340 Free French Squadron RAF A French squadron formed at RAF Turnhouse on 7 November 1941 as part of Le Groupe de Chasse IV/2 'Ile de France'. It was transferred to the control of the Armee de l’Air (French Air Force) on 25 Nov 1945.1
No. 341 Free French Squadron 'Alsace' A French squadron formed at RAF Turnhouse on 15 Jan 1943 as part of Le Groupe de Chasse 3/2 'Alsace'. It was transferred to the control of the Armee de l’Air (French Air Force) on 28 Nov 1945.1
No. 342 Free French Squadron 'Lorraine' A French squadron formed at RAF West Raynham on 7 Apr 1943 as part of Le Groupe de Bombardement 1/20 'Lorraine'. It was transferred to the control of the Armee de l’Air (French Air Force) on 2 Dec 1945.1
Military - Army
Forces Françaises de l’Intérieure (French Forces of the Interior) A French force of resistance fighters in the later stages of WW2 as France was liberated. As regions of France were liberated, they were formally organized into light infantry units and served as an addition to regular Free French forces. They were later amalgamated into the French regular forces.1
Military - Army Corps
French Nineth Army Core An army core of the French army, part of the French 4th army on the Maginot Line. In late May 1940, is was gradually removed and shipped to the Somme front to be alongside the 10th Army. The remains of the 9th were encircled in Saint-Valery-en-Caux and forced to surrender June 12 1940.1

French 21st Infantry Division An infantry division of the French army who on 10 May 1940 was attached to the 7th Army.1
French 31st Infantry Division An infantry division of the French army who on 10 May 1940 was attached to the 8th Army Corps, part of the French 5th Army.1
French 5th Light Cavalry Division A French Army division active during World War II including during the Battle of France in May 1940.1
Military - Army Regiments
French Foreign Legion A military service wing of the French Army established in 1831 exclusively created for foreign nationals willing to serve in the French Armed Forces. It played a part in the Norwegian, Syrian and North African campaigns during WW2.2

French Army The land-based and largest component of the French Armed Forces. Along with the French Air Force, the French Navy and the National Gendarmerie, it is placed under the responsibility of the French government.3
French Tenth Army A unit of the French army that was disbanded between 7 and 8 June 1940, after the encirclement of the 9th Army Corps at Saint-Valéry-en-Caux and the attachment of the 10th and 25th Army Corps to the Armée de Paris. A new 10th Army was formed to hold the front at the Lower Seine and placed under command of General Robert Altmayer.1
French Third Army A unit of the French army that was to hold the Maginot Line south of Luxembourg and Saarland and commanded by General Condé. It was forced to surrender after the german frontal assault across the Rhine river into France (operation Tiger) and Lorraine was surrounded by the Guderian’s XIX Korps sweeping thru Switzerland.1

French Navy The maritime arm of the French Armed Forces and one of the five military service branches of France. It is among the largest and most powerful naval forces in the world, ranking seventh in combined fleet tonnage and fifth in number of naval vessels.3
Ministère de la Marine A section of the French government that was in charge of the French navy and colonies. The ministry combined the administration of the navy, the colonies and seaborne trade helping for example the French East India Company.1
Political
Vichy France Vichy France, officially the French State, was the pro-Axis government headed by Marshal Philippe Pétain from 1940 to 1944 during World War II. Vichy only fully controlled the zone in southern France not occupied by German military forces, while Germany occupied northern France.4
