Military - Air Force
Royal Australian Air Force The aerial warfare branch of the Australian Defence Force. During WW2 some RAAF bomber, fighter, reconnaissance and other squadrons served initially in Britain, and/or with the Desert Air Force in North Africa and the Mediterranean, while the majority were primarily deployed in the South West Pacific Area.4

2nd Australian Imperial Force The name given to the volunteer personnel of the Australian Army in WW2 who fought against Nazi Germany, the Kingdom of Italy, Vichy France and the Empire of Japan.1
Military - Army Divisions
6th Division Australia A unit of the Australian Army that served in the North African campaign, the Greek campaign, on Crete and in Syria, fighting against the Germans, Italians and Vichy French during 1940-41. In 1942, it left the Middle East and returned to Australia to meet the threat of Japan.2
7th Division Australia An infantry division of the Australian Army, formed in February 1940 to serve in WW2, as part of the Second Australian Imperial Force. The 7th Division along with the 6th and 9th Australian Divisions were the only divisions to serve in both the Middle East and the South West Pacific Area.1
9th Division Australia A division of the Australian Army that served during WW2. It was the fourth division raised for the Second Australian Imperial Force. It was one of only a few Allied army units to serve in both the Mediterranean and Pacific theatres (along with the 6th and 7th Divisions).1

3rd Field Regiment, Australia An Australian Army field artillery regiment during WW2 assigned to the 6th Division. It was first deployed to the UK and then saw action in North Africa, Greece and Crete, returning to Australia in 1942. It later saw action in the pacific theatre.1

Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve A reserve force of the Royal Australian Navy. Most Australian coast watchers were commissioned as officers in this force during WW2 and some also served in the Royal Navy.1
