| Description | A smaller and slower type of aircraft carrier used in WW2 that carried fewer planes and were less well armed and armoured, but were cheaper and could be built quickly. In the Battle of the Atlantic, they were used to protect convoys against U-boats and later formed part of independent hunter-killer groups that sought out submarines. |
